Seriously impressive - don't get much more prestigious than Salute. Congratulations to the team.

Congratulations! Who are the team? What was the game? Can we hear more about it (in Slingshot, as first comment says?)

Chuck the Grey

Congratulations to all and thanks for all your hard work.

Update: Report on Salute by Big Lee from Miniature Adventures revealed that the game was Battle of Issus using Impetus 2 rules. It was a really great looking game.

First of all very well done to the team at Salute ;D

However it is a little odd that there was no publicity on this forum on the team from the Society and the battle they were taking ::)

That said I take nothing away from the achievement 8)  8)

Anyone know if any of the guys running the game frequent this forum? Is it an Eastbourne club (?) contingent?

They did very well to nab the best participation game award. It's a busy venue and hard to spot all of what goes on, so kudos for getting noticed (as my colleague said, you go home from Salute and realise you've only seen 40% of it...🙃).

Possibly because we have other lives that we have to get on with.  Remember we are volunteers.  Frankly I am getting p***ed off at the implied criticism from members on this forum.  Perhaps they would like to volunteer?  I have been Membership Secretary and then Treasurer since January 1997.   Quite happy for someone else to take over if they wish to.

The show team are the guys from Eastbourne. Well done to Alan, Eric, Mark and (apologies - I should have noted who else was in the team).

It was the Battle of Mantinea, not Issus (I think Issus was in the Salute programme as the original intention, but the guys changed the battle), using Impetus 2 rules.

The figures were from Eric's collection, 28mm and very nicely painted.  The battlefield was actually pretty simple using carpet tiles, spray painted but very effective.

I don't think there was any implied criticism from anyone.

I believe there is an SoA demo/participation game every Salute so we wouldn't expect to get advance notice about it. I would still like to have something on this winning game in Slingshot - maybe Alan, Eric or Mark (or A N Other) could provide?

Why are you pissed off?  I was very clear with my congratulations both before and after the comment you highlighted.  I did my best to make what I believe is a valid point without implying any criticism of those, like yourself, doing great work for the Society.

Not everybody is in the loop with what goes on at Salute. In fact I would think that only a small minority of members are. I honestly don't think that it would be very hard for somebody in the know (not necessarily those running the game)  to put up a simple post saying something like  " The SoA is putting on a participation game at Salute on (whenever it was).  If you are going support the guys  - they do a great job every year"

Perhaps there are many other SoA games at shows that I don't know about - that would be a shame.  We have a great medium of communication in this forum lets use it to its full advantage
