Who doesn't like a good Roman mosaic? Not far from the in-laws this one. Don't be surprised if this one turns up in my atrium, one tessarae at a time!

Leading a later generation of Australian archaeologists to postulate an extension of Roman-Indian trade to include Australia as well?   ;)

Not postulated, but based on fact. When they dig up the replica Roman equipment several of us has, it will be proof of a legionary base, with the mosaic floor clearly showing a "high status" residence, possible of the Legate or a Senator. My mosaic floor will have clear links to the "now lost" Sampford Peverell mosaic, suggesting that the legionary equipment is from a vexillation drawn from the XXth Legion who were stationed in this area.  The finds of lead-based model soldiers suggest these have links to military training, teaching formations and manoeuvres.

Other excavators wondered why, when I was on a dig, I was sent to a far off corner of the site armed with a shovel to dig holes on my own.  I think the Ripping Yarn about Eric Olthwaite was based on my knowledge of shovels.
