I've not heard of the Geometric period before.  Did it come before or after the Algebraic?

I'm not great at Ancient Greek history, but I am aware that 343BC is a long time after the Geometric period. I presume the confusion comes from the loose way the writer has used tower, castle and fortification.

Strictly speaking, Geometric is best confined to early Iron Age ceramics, rather than as a discrete period of ancient Greek history per se.  But the pottery enthusiasts get everywhere...
