The War Wolf reference is a bit of a red herring.  The garrison surrendered before War Wolf could be used.  Edward was so annoyed he made them stay in place while he tried out his new toy against the walls. It does seem to have been pretty effective in trebuchet terms, though. Skeleton 150 would be pretty unlucky to have been hit by War Wolf rather than the other trebuchets.  However, excellent bit of archaeopathology there from my alma mater.

I guess skeleton 150 is the guy who said "rest easy, they've no hope of hitting us at this range and trebuchets are wildly inaccurate...."

I was amused by the headline reconstruction picture. In the left foreground is a group of drummers. I think I can hear the master engineer crying "Now, gentlemen, a drum roll if you please . . . and, Release!"
