Investigating Highland grave with extra skulls

So when I first saw this:

The grave at Portmahomack in the Highlands contains a man with a fatal sword wound to his skull. He was buried with four skulls...

I assumed it was talking about an Iron Age Celtic grave, severed trophy heads and all. But it turns out it's late mediaeval, and some of the skulls are related - so it's some sort of family burial vault. Intriguing.
