Very much of interest.  I'm working my way through Shepard and Franklin's 'The Emergence of Rus' 750-1200', the first chapter of which is titled 'Silver Seekers from the North'.  This gives a fascinating insight into the nature of the trading and raiding relationship between the Northmen and the tribes they had to deal with as they sought the source of silver in the Arab and Byzantine worlds and I suspect one can read a lot over from it to the conditions in Britain at the same time.
