Following on a comment by Anthony after the last Syagrius vs Clovis game, I tried a solitaire game with my Vassal module, where the Franks assault the Roman infantry frontally using two lines of Warriors. It can be done. I tried another solitaire game and - presuming the cavalry are in a Mexican standoff - the Franks smash the Romans with this deployment. I'll post the game if anyone's interested. Optio is about tactical nuance. There, said it.
