Clearly, when Hardy had his house built, people had no respect for ancient monuments, merely using them as convenient and colourful backdrops to romantic novels.

One can only guess what Hardy's reaction might have been to the recently cancelled A303 road tunnel...

There was a good bit on the BBC news a couple of years ago, before latest dig, similar points to Nick's being made, Haven't actually been there myself but relatives in the area have - not a lot to see they tell me but they are Hardy fans first I suspect.
