Title: End of empire transition - another DNA study
Post by: Erpingham on May 01, 2026, 11:17 AM
We seem to have a niche interest in population DNA, so here's another one

Blöcher, J., Vallini, L., Velte, M. et al. Demography and life histories across the Roman frontier in Germany 400–700 ce. Nature (2026) (https://rdcu.be/fgqDM)

Lots of statistical methods here, which should please some members and baffle others :)

Short takeaway is no evidence of massed migration of alien populations. Quite a lot of evidence of smaller scale migrations, perhaps individuals or extended families. Lot of cultural continuity.
