Popped into my local show today. A long way from its heyday, I'm afraid, with limited stands and limited displays and demos. Quite big on terrain pieces in resin or MDF though.
A couple of the games were in our area of interest
Lance and Longbow society in a Welsh/English clash, 13th century.
Recon 25 L&L.jpg
Some nice old figures here. Rules are Lion Rampant . Note the small tags attached at the back of the bases for marking casualties with a marker - the players told me they were fed up with dice and counters coming astray, so they tried this. Nice chat too between runnings of the game - well done Lance and Longbow display team.
Leeds Night Owls. A winter battle.
Recon 25 LNO.jpg
Dramatic scenics. Rules Barons' War. Figures (I think) Fireforge plastics. Interesting aesthetic choices with the forces - one shades of black, the other almost illuminated. Sadly no one there at the time to chat to (I only saw two club members earlier, which does make it difficult to keep a constant presence at the table if you want to eat, browse or answer a call of nature.) Note how counter heavy this game system appears to be from this example.
To round it off, I bumped into an old colleague, who is a fellow ancients gamer. Still pressing on with DBM - he has converted his garage into a wargames room , with bar :)
Years since I've been to Recon at Pudsey :-[

In truth, Jim, I wouldn't recommend someone to come as far as you would have to. It is fairly easy to reach for much of West Yorks though so remains perhaps busier than it ought just on the offer.
I did look at it but 8 hours round trip didn't inspired me and your report on worthiness confirms my decision
It does not sound like one for the Test of Resolve roadshow

Sadly, I fear not. Though you'd raise the average quality by a way by being there :)

Recon was my first proper show way back when I was in Leeds. I remember being amazed at the time as a 17 year old who'd started out with airfix figures and didn't realise that other people even played games with similar toy soldiers.
Sadly a work trip on Tuesday up to Leeds meant my plan of a trip home for the weekend to see the old man and attend and do some shopping was kiboshed, twice in 4 days just wasn't on the cards.
