I admit I had a fleeting and doubtless unworthy thought that they were branching out to another fort because the Vindolanda well was running dry :)

It will be interesting to see what Magna reveals.  There are other sites too that have been barely touched.

Archaeology, we should recall, is destruction.  We shouldn't be excavating things just from curiosity but rather to protect at risk sites or answer questions (e.g. dating of occupation).  In this case, we need to dig to assess the condition of the site and how it is changing.  If at risk remains (e.g. organic) turn up, I'd expect further rescue activity in the future.
