I'm guessing the photo is a modern recreation rather than the actual sample.

I think it's one of the originals:

Sample no. 004 was selected from a small group of pink-purplish wool fibers (Fig 2), which were probably ripped from a textile that did not survive.

I seem to recall that the sea shells which the purple dye comes from were found in significant quantities around/near the Arsuf castle remains (built on previously occupied site, back to Phoenician).
