Into the Valley of Death Rode the Clibanarii!

I was excited to be able to continue last weeks game, the face off between the forces of Emperor Galerius Middle Imperial romans and Shah Narseh Sassanid force; a race to capture the prize of the Roman baggage train and a chance to deprive the Roman army of much needed supplies, thus preventing any further Roman incursion into Persia towards Ctesiphon.

For the fill story of Part II of The battle for the Baggage Train, please head over to my Just Add Water blog for a feat of sarcasm and a spile of images of the game:

Great ox carts there. What scale are we looking at? I guess 28mm possibly 25?

The Sassanians are a mixture of 28mm and older 25mm. You can spot Minifigs, Hinchliffe and Garrison in there alongside more modern ranges.

You may be able to spot them but I am less eagle eyed and also have none of these manufactures in my collections which are mostly Warlord and Victrix with a few Foundry and perhaps an odd other 28mm but no 25s at all.
I am always impressed by how well folks spot figures from different ranges in photos I can't remember exactly what all my rank and file are. Should I have kept better records I wonder.🤔

I'm not as good on the newer ranges. I think some of the Sassanians are Gripping Beast, judging by the horses.  I think there are some Aventine and A&A in there too.

Atheling / Darrell,

thats an exciting looking game and looks huge with all those figures.

great link and photo report - there are some great photos, and I especially like the image of all those bows and dart firing torsion engines shooting from the camp on the river bank.

I can see why you need so many movement trays with all those single bases! Takes me back to the first time I ever saw a Sassanid army - in the collection of former SoA President Phil Halewood - when he still used his own rules for mainly individually based horse archers and the like.
