Circa 1,000 men is a much higher figure than I have seen suggested before, and seems a tad of a strain to assume that they are all discharged auxiliaries, as opposed to a 100 odd warband or retinue that had either a few ex-auxiliaries or a few chaps with prestige Imperial items from trade or diplomatic gifting.
