Maybe it was a fortified bakery? After winning best in show for his baking at the Nile Agricultural Show, young baker Thutmosis "Ram-e-sey" had to build some walls for crowd control? Mrs Miggins'pies were no match.

One wonders what sort of volcanic rock, as Thera might offer an alternative explanation as to how it might have ended up in an Egyptian site, especially given the continuing debate as to which bit of Egyptian chronology synchronises with the eruption...

I was also amused that the military road is described as linking the Nile delta to the Mediterranean  :)
