New one on me...
Nice one :)
I enjoyed that. Thanks for posting it
Indeed, the Guelph/Ghibbeline conflict is a fascinating one. Runciman's book on the Sicilian Vespers deals with quite a lot of it. The other book I found interesting on struggles between the Church and various temporal distractions is E.R. Chamberlin The Bad Popes (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bad-Popes-R-Chamberlin/dp/1913518779/ref=sr_1_1?crid=18EVOYA406JT3&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zDZ0fnz2bToOB7MwuzmqeFniVFrLChUl1WgwaZtmp_cgXWSFsAefwMTY5IDH1we7fkKC_xWitAiN0kFZft1q6IQj3FjmAQMjf5SVZL3GwQPrBXxvZIcUJPPxOnR6ytiYEBGAAct05l2oxvRcpydBsnWxADYfUVFpL7qZFWzqOgN-aUz8pozhKI-E6pIYHF6keuf1p5c_7bQIGotSYNDDP5Sg525XuZe5JYuSb6p3R30.RygPOAV28q34mN_1xNZc0RUF8T7g4Pl24OA6zHUzcc8&dib_tag=se&keywords=the+bad+popes&qid=1758021358&sprefix=the+bad+popes%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-1).

For overseas readers, Dave is referencing the famed comic creation Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet). Hyacinth was the star of Keeping Up Appearances, a woman of ordinary origins who had pretensions and was a terrible snob. My mother rather wickedly said Hyacinth was based on her older sister.
