Surely the main thing about a spy network is that it remains anonymous. It might be that what we have is a brief window into the area because somebody was silly enough to commit it to paper where the names might end up being compromised.
We probably never hear about the best espionage networks  ;)

Absolutely. One of the Soviet Cold War defectors - might have been "Suvarov" - laughed at Richard Sorge being described as the greatest spy in history; "Of course he wasn't, he was caught and hanged. The contenders for "greatest spy" are the ones of whom you have never heard..."
