Finally got around to chronicling last week's WotR battle based upon Thomas' One Hour Wargames Scenario #4, Take the High Ground.

As Simon mentioned a while back, I wonder why I bother to post here...
A challenge, eh Jon? :) As you know, I have a large WotR force of my own and like the period but I suspect others may find battles of this period a bit uncomplicated and, dare I say, not very gripping tactically so don't comment? Personally, I liked the scenario because it was a plausible WotR tactical situation - advance guard siezes key position and waits for rest of army to come up. I look forward to further developments in your WotR set up - enclosures, fieldworks, artillery, plomps of spears lurking in ambush. Keep going Jon.
Definitely Jon

...well, it prompted me to have a look and read the blog a couple of days ago, Jon. It looked like a very bloody fight, and with one less king as a result. I'm always keen to see how gamers' One Hour Wargames scenarios repurposed work out.
There are many blogs I'll read with interest, but am only likely to comment on occasionally. As mentioned, not because I have no interest but because my comments might well be of limited value (an element of 'imposter syndrome , I suspect...) - in my case a lack of WotR knowledge would certainly be a factor.
Another factor is that I USUALLY press the 'notify me of updates' button when I post on a blog, but with extremely successful blogs like yours I end up with a rammed full email inbox. This has put me off commenting in the past, whereas what I SHOULD do is not click on the 'notify me...' button. I'm a slooow learnerrrrr.🙃

This battle definitely sounds tactically interesting!

A challenge, for sure, Anthony! A second playing of this scenario with a new opponent has been posted on my blog at

Duly read. Interesting that you are considering a non-gridded experiment.

Thank you! With limited maneuverability, grids may not be needed to speed up play for ease of use during remote gaming. Hexes pose a slight issue for multi-unit Battles and their alignment one behind the other. Besides, you would rather see a green table!

Yes, I am that shallow :)
Keep going Jon. It's worth it (in the end). Looks good fun.
