A very good find indeed, but honestly... first skirmish of the ECW? The siege of Hull began a month earlier and started with Meldrum's sally vs the King circa 10 July.
This features on Digging for Britain (or featured, if you've been watching the series on iPlayer). Does make you think about these late medieval fortified sites and their military utility. Resistance to a small(?) force without artillery was certainly possible.
