I am glad that the practice of crucifixion had died out by the time I was living in Fenstanton in the 1980s.

That'll do it..   In the Grimdark Universe, crucifixion is letting you off lightly...

According to the post Rupert Brooke Cotton in Cambridgeshire is "full of nameless crimes".  Maybe some of them were punishable by crucifixion.
