Cider stories are always interesting. However mention of ritual purposes translates as - we ain't got a clue...

This somewhat reminds me of a story from a few years (OK about 3 decades!) ago from west Cornwall, where individual standing stones in fields are common. A group of new-age types asked a farmer the significance of these stones, to be told, "Well, me 'ansomes, Oi believe they'm for the cows to scratch their arses on..."
