I will have to look this out in Britannia,  intrigued as to basis for apparently stating definitively that the handle was made locally.

As to what it depicts, reminiscent of me trying to get a pill down the throat of one of my parents' cats in years past...

with the rest of the family cowering in terror out of the way?

I loved the comment " you have a story evolving there of the practice in Roman law where criminals and prisoners of war are condemned to be killed by beasts.

"That was slightly worse than being condemned to the mines, which is the other way that prisoners often met their end."

Strikes me as an interesting judgement call there  ;)
