I wanted a different ancient game for the club rather than just have two armies face off.
So we have the Sassanids trying to raise a siege and the Romans trying to take the city and fend off the relief force.

I like the beer mat city but will need some bigger beer mats for 20mm scale ::)

Drink bigger beers? Actually you could do something similar with square metal bases cut to an appropriate size. My city (The beer mats have magnabases) sits on the thin metal that was one of those pseudo advertisements you see, printed onto metal sheet. I picked it up for £1 in a charity shop 8)
More shots of Beer Mat City would be good Young Jim :)
Might have to put your rules on my list to Santa so I can "borrow" or "modify" some of your ideas.

That's how rule writing works 8)
Here you are.
It has evolved over the years and had I been a competent modeller would doubtless have looked better. The white appearing between some of the beer mats is the thin metal sheet backing. The magnabase holds the city in place.
I transport it to the club horizontally, on the backing board, in a box on top of other stuff so it is reasonably mobile and has travelled a fair bit
Actually when fighting within the city you can easily take a base out and replace it with ruined wall base (a project yet to get past the 'that would be a nice idea' phase.
But actually you can slide the base out and place the figures on the white surface, perhaps marking anything significant with pencil. As it is, once you're inside the city we just count everything as the same terrain and infantry aren't too handicapped.
