Hurrah for re-inventable heroes! The ability of a fictional figure to change with the tides of public taste is a great asset for continued popularity. Those that cannot tend to become historical curios.

Perhaps the very definition of a hero is that they have a character open to interpretation by future generations to suit the stories that each generation wishes to weave?
