Interesting that they not sure about the lighting and whether the lack was actually important.
The 'theological effect' may have been more important than admiring the art work in detail

Indeed, in many houses of worship a low light level is commonly used to represent the mystery of the deity.

(This is probably a more acceptable explanation than "We forgot to think about the windows.")

So not as big as the statue of Zeus at Parc Asterix?

It stands astride one of the ride queues, and when you finally pass underneath you can look up and see his floral underpants.
